PIMS-SZABMU separation: CADD sends bill to law ministry for vetting
Pakistan News October 7, 2017, by Raheel Ayub 0 Comment 3ISLAMABAD: The Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) has sent a bill to separate the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) from the Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University (SZABMU) to the law ministry for vetting bill.
The move came as medical and non-medical staff at the hospital continued their protest for a fifth day.
CADD Minster Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry met with the Federal Law Minister Zahid Hamid on Friday and discussed the separation bill.
The law minister said that he has sent a summary in this regard to the premier.
During their meeting, Chaudhry told Hamid that the prime minister has agreed in principle to separate Pims from SZABMU. The process will be completed in due course of time.
Chaudhry said that the hospital’s employees, instead of political agitation, should concentrate on their work and tend to the patients.
Protest continues
The medical and paramedical staff of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) on Friday continued their protest on a fifth consecutive day.
They threw out SZABMU Vice Chancellor Javed Akram from his office and locked it. The protestors said they would not allow the VC to sit in his office unless their demands are met.
“I have no desire for the seat. But it is sad to see patients suffering for a fifth consecutive day. I am willing to resign if it means that patients will get treatment,” VC Akram said.
Addressing protesters, Mian Aslam demanded that the quarters concerned notify the separation of the hospital from medical university immediately. The protesters also demanded an increase in the number of medical and paramedical staff at the hospital. They said that their protest will continue until their demands are approved.
Meanwhile, due to agitation, all the outpatient departments of the hospital remained closed for the entire day due to which patients faced hardships. Several operations could not be conducted due to the protest.
