Netflix wants you to hack it. Well, sort of.
The entertainment and streaming company announced Wednesday the launch of a public bug bounty program designed to allow security researchers to responsibly disclose vulnerabilities, and, notably, get paid for doing so.
The idea is not a new one, and in fact Netflix has done this privately since 2013. Opening it up to the general public, however, is new for Nextflix. The company is working with Bugcrowd to manage and vet submissions, and has a clear set of rules regarding what is and isn’t eligible for a payout. Read more…

Police released a video Wednesday of the self-driving Uber vehicle that struck and killed a woman Sunday night in Tempe, Arizona.
The video, below, shows Uber’s self-driving vehicle’s exterior view right before the crash. A quick glimpse of the woman killed, 49-year-old Elaine Herzberg, walking her bike can be seen. The moment she was hit is not shown because of what Tempe police called “the graphic nature of the impact.”

Creepy AI scans a driver's face and voice to monitor mood and distraction level

No, not on Facebook, but in your car. Or at least you could be, with a new artificial intelligence system that tracks drivers’ emotions, energy, and distraction levels.
On Wednesdasy, Affectiva, a MIT Media Lab emotional recognition software startup, launched its emotional AI software — which means that car manufacturers can include its facial- and voice-tracking tech in future cars.
The company says the system could help prevent drowsy and distracted driving accidents, but it’s also just next-level creepy. Read more…
