Kellyanne Conway said Trump empowers women and you can guess how that went
October 13, 2017When you think of Donald Trump you immediately think of all he’s done to make women feel empowered, do you not?
No? Oh, sorry — guess that’s just Kellyanne Conway.
Others might be thinking about the Donald Trump who bragged about groping women, cut Obama’s equal pay act, and rolled back access to birth control, but the man Conway knows apparently “elevates and empowers women,” as she recently explained on Twitter.
On Thursday the White House counselor shared a Fox Business tweet announcing Trump had nominated cybersecurity expert Kirstjen Nielson as Department of Homeland Security Secretary. Read more…

Consider this yet another PSA on why you should never ever download Adobe Flash Player, or anything resembling it if you’re using an Android phone.
Security researchers at ESET have discovered a new kind of ransomware infecting Android phones on a level nobody’s ever seen before. Called DoubleLocker, the exploit encrypts the data on the infected device and then changes its PIN number so victims are locked out of their device unless they pay the ransom demanded by hackers.
The DoubleLocker hack is a threat to any Android device; it’s particularly worrying since it doesn’t require a “rooted” phone that gives extra access for the hacker to run its own code, but the effect is severe — locking the user completely out of their own device. Read more…

Airbnb is opening its very own apartment building (that sounds a lot like a hotel)
October 13, 2017Airbnb would like to sell you a time share in Florida. Yes, really.
The home-rental company is working in partnership with a property developer on a branded 300-unit rental complex in Kissimmee, Florida that will bear a new name: “Niido powered by Airbnb.” The apartment building will come with extra services to help you rent out your apartment on Airbnb for up to half the year.
“This is something that philosophically matches with our long-term strategy,” Airbnb’s head of multi-family housing projects, Jaja Jackson, told the Financial Times.
The complex will be built in partnership with Newgard Development Group, a property developer in Florida that will actually build and own the apartment building. Airbnb is slapping its name on the project. Read more…

Harvey Weinstein was never the only sexual predator in Hollywood – he was just one of the most powerful and most prolific. And his fall from grace is dragging down others as well.
Director Oliver Stone has been accused of sexual assault by Carrie Stevens, a former Playboy model who says he groped her at a party about 26 years ago.
She wrote on Facebook:
Stevens described Stone and Weinstein as “two of a kind,” and told The New York Daily News that she probably wasn’t his only victim. “If they do it to one, they’ll do it to as many as they can get away with,” she said. (A rep for Stone did not return a request for comment from the NY Daily News about the allegations.) Read more…

'League of Legends' developers finally get serious about making a second game
October 13, 2017The developers behind League of Legends announced that they are working on a whole new game, and this time it looks like they’re pretty serious about it.
Riot Games’ founders Brandon “Ryze” Beck and Marc “Tryndamere” Merrill revealed in a blog post Thursday they’ll be stepping away from the leadership end of Riot to go back to what brought League of Legends to life in the first place: developing games. Specifically, they’re going to “finally put the ‘s’ in Riot Games.”
League of Legends launched eight years ago this month and has since grown into a global success, becoming one of the most popular esports in existence. With that growth, Merrill and Beck noted that they have shifted from developer roles to managerial roles within Riot but feel comfortable enough with the team they’ve brought together to jump back into making games.
