PESHAWAR: Politicians, environmentalists and academicians have urged the government to include democratic civic education and democracy in the curriculum at school-level to help broaden the understanding of students and people on social and economic issues,
Although the subjects of civics, sociology and political science were available as optional, experts have asserted making a cursory study of these topics as compulsory subjects.
They also urged the government for implementing Senate resolution on democratic civic education.

RAWALPINDI: The Government High School for Blind Girls on Saturday marked the White Cane Safety Day which is celebrated across the globe on October 15.
District Education Authority AD Saleem Raza joined the visually impaired girls on the occasion. Enthusiastic students presented tableau national songs and speeches.
Raza said these children despite their advisability had potential to contribute towards the community. Principal Waseem Sanaullah said the day was meant for creating awareness about the problems being faced by the visually impaired people and their rights.

SARGODHA: Police on Saturday arrested 32 accused and recovered narcotics, liquor and illegal weapons.
A police spokesperson said the accused were identified as Muhammad Ilyas, Yuqub, Afsar Hussain, Waseem, Nazar Gull, Amir, Sajjad, Amjad Pervaiz, Ashfaque, Habib Ullah, Amanullah, Anvesh Masih, Ghulam rasool, Ghulam Muhammad, Fayyaz, Sarfraz, Nasir Mehmood etc.
Police recovered seven kilogrammes of hashish, 285 bottles of liquor and eight pistols, three rifles and cartridges.

FAISALABAD: Additional District and Sessions Judge Khalid Saeed Watto issued non-bailable arrest warrants against five policemen over non-compliance of the court orders.
The court had summoned Inspector Waris, Inspector Waheed Shahid, Inspector Mian Rafiq and Constables Ali Imran and Liaquat Dhillon in a pending case but they failed to comply with court orders.
Taking serious notice, the judge issued arrest warrants of the officials with a directive to produce them before the court on October 23. Meanwhile, the FIA team claimed to have arrested a human trafficker.

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad administration has directed the shopkeepers of the city to stop selling toy guns to children as it could prove fatal for them.
According to official sources, keeping in view the sensitivity of the matter, the administration has verbally directed the shop keepers not to sell such items to the children as same can lead to any untoward incident.
In this regard, directions have been passed on to all zonal superintendents of police of Islamabad to further instruct their subordinates to initiate action against the violators.
Boy shoots brother dead mistaking gun for toy
A notification regarding imposition of ban will also be issued by the district administration. After issuance of notification, further action under section 188 of PPC will be initiated against the violators in accordance with law.
However, according to official sources, there is no punitive section available in Pakistan Penal Code or any other law for selling of toy guns and selling of these toys is still not an offence under the law.
