And that’s basically the premise of the best new meme on Twitter. The first sentence starts with a premise said to one person, and the followup is a salty and funny response.

While the meme’s been kicking around for the last few weeks, it exploded this weekend, and we’re here for it.

Elon Musk tweeted last week that Tesla would shift its attentions to help with the aid and recovery efforts in Puerto Rico following the devastation of Hurricane Maria.

Now, it appears that the company is making good on his word: Tesla has reportedly begun to ship its Powerpack batteries, which can be used to store large amounts of energy generated by the sun and other means, to the island. These are Tesla’s massive batteries meant for commercial and utility use, as opposed to the smaller Powerwall packs meant for the home. 

After Musk expressed his willingness to get involved, he and Puerto Rico’s governor Ricardo Rossello exchanged tweets about Tesla’s role on the island, and later spoke in private about the issue. Tesla VP of global infrastructure operations Cal Lankton then met with Rossello, according to Electrek, presumably to discuss a strategy at greater length. The Powerpacks could be the next step in Tesla’s recovery efforts.   Read more…

With a mysterious white cup in hand, the former Swedish prime minister gracefully videobombed a live news interview.

According to The Local, while the interviewee, Benjamin Dousa, a leader of the conservative Moderate Party’s youth wing in Sweden, was answering questions, Bildt bounced happily in the background.

Since then, the video’s blown up online – even drawing a few apt comparisons to Mr. Bean.

My grandmother died in 2013. 

She was a stubborn, brilliant woman who ardently believed in the value of science. She came of age in Brooklyn, but I knew her as my Nana in Los Angeles who worked with dinosaur bones. 

When she died, my grandfather gave me one of Nana’s necklaces: A jade stone with a gold chain. I wear it most days. 

After today, I will look at that necklace differently. 

While the jade stone on Nana’s necklace was forged in the high heat and pressure of the Earth — an appropriate tribute to Nana’s roots as a geologist — the gold of the necklace she once wore is alien in origin.  Read more…
