It was only a matter of time: Samsung’s Bixby assistant isn’t confined to just phones anymore.

The company will soon bring its digital assistant to appliances, starting with its own refrigerators and smart TVs. Samsung is also working with third-party developers to open up Bixby to non-Samsung products “in the near future.”

The news is part of Samsung’s “Bixby 2.0” update, announced today at the company’s developer conference in San Francisco. The revamped Bixby is smarter, has better voice recognition capabilities, and has improved personalization features. Read more…

The latest controversy surrounding Donald Trump is ridiculously low, even for him.

After Democratic Rep. Frederica Wilson described extremely insensitive comments she claimed to have heard Trump made while speaking to the widow of Sgt. La David Johnson — a soldier who was killed in Niger — Trump said the recollection of the incident was “totally fabricated.”

Now, despite Trump claiming to have proof he didn’t tell Johnson’s wife her husband “knew what he signed up for” multiple times, the soldier’s mother told The Washington Post she heard the call and Trump did disrespect her family. Read more…

Time to throw this old couch to the curb. 

After two weeks of horrific revelations about predatory producer Harvey Weinstein — and now his brother Bob — it’s hard to imagine we’ll see another “casting couch” joke in movies or TV for some time – if ever. 

But as the industry examines the parts of its system that let Weinstein act unchallenged, we should not ignore the fact that the whole concept behind his behavior has been baked into its product for decades.

The casting couch is shorthand for a cartoon image: the lascivious old producer with roaming hands pursuing a young starlet in an uncomfortably close seating situation during a private audition. The more this became a cliche of entertainment, the more it blunted the edges of a harsh reality for untold numbers of women.  Read more…

By combining the ground-breaking 3D world design of Super Mario 64 with the addicting combat mechanics of Super Smash Bros., game modder Skelux has birthed an amazing new mod called Super Smash Bros. 3D.

This early version of Super Smash Bros. 3D only has a handful of stages, including what appears to be Super Smash Bros. Melee‘s Final Destination stage and the living room from the original Super Smash Bros. game’s intro video.

If Super Smash Bros. 3D drums up enough interest, Skelux may continue to work on improving the mod, including adding four-player capabilities, more stages, and items. Read more…
