Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan conspired against democracy by becoming an accomplice of military ruler Pervez Musharraf and will face similar fate as that of Asghar Khan.
Speaking at a Diwali ceremony in Tando Mohammad Khan, a district of southern Sindh, on Thursday, he said Imran’s dream of becoming prime minister would never come true as he is destined to become the next Asghar Khan in Pakistan’s history, Express News reported.
Bilawal said his party has ideological differences with the PTI chief, who, he said, never shies away from taking anti-democratic steps, citing the 2014 protest sit-in against the elected government – referring to the PML-N rule.
Double whammy for Imran Khan as both ECP and ATC order his arrest
He claimed the PTI had received foreign funding from India and Israel referring to confessional statements of Akbar S Babar, one of the founding members of PTI, who parted ways with it.
The PPP chairman also criticised Imran for being ‘anti-women’, saying Ayesha Gulalai’s statements have proved misogynistic behaviours within the party. The PTI lawmaker Gulalai had accused the cricket-star-turned-politician of sexual harassment.
‘Indictment won’t weaken democracy’
Commenting over today’s indictment of ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam and son-in-law Captain (retd) Mohammad Safdar by an accountability court, Bilawal said accountability process was necessary for durable democracy and the court’s decision will neither weaken democracy nor is a conspiracy against it.
The PPP leader advised Nawaz and his family to face the court cases and respond to allegations levelled against them. He added that there were no Constitutional amendments needed for him to become the prime minister of the country as anyone who can become an MNA can become the premier also.
