Being told your novel about growing up gay in the 1980s is “too gay” isn’t particularly constructive criticism.
Matt Cain is editor-in-chief at Attitude magazine, a leading online magazine for gay men in the UK. He’s already penned two novels, and he’s written a third entitled The Madonna of Bolton. The book takes inspiration from his own life, as he is a huge fan of Madonna and loved her music when he was growing up.
In a video, Cain says of the book’s protagonist, “He has a really hard time in life so he clings on to Madonna to get him through. But then when he grows up he has to let go of his obsession to find his own voice, just like I did.” Read more…
