Take a look at this.
Google is rumored to be launching its very own smart speaker with a built-in screen, according to a new report from the Nikkei Asian Review. The report cites sources within the supply chain, and claims that Google is preparing this product for the holiday season, with “targets to ship some 3 million units for the first batch of the new model of smart speaker that comes with a screen.”
The smart speaker would reportedly be positioned as a direct competitor to the Amazon Echo Show and to similar products from the Chinese retail conglomerate Alibaba — two of Google’s greatest rivals in the artificial intelligence and data-mining industries. Read more…

It’s almost certain that there isn’t a shadowy figure lurking outside your front door in the cold of night, waiting to pounce. It’s almost certain but it isn’t certain, is it?
Installing a security camera outside your property won’t deal with said lurker — that’s one for the authorities, or you in your dressing-gown with a rolling pin if you are feeling brave. The camera will, however, give you an all-important heads up and peace of mind.
The Netgear Arlo Pro Security Camera works with Amazon Alexa, Echo Show, and FireTV, meaning you can view your live video with a simple voice command. It is also 100% wire-free and weatherproof, with two-way audio. Read more…

If you’re looking for a low-maintenance pet, Bruno is not the cat for you. But if you’re looking for a pet whose lifestyle is the feline version of a Mariah Carey tour rider, look no further.
Bruno is a 7-year-old cat currently up for adoption at the Wright Way Rescue Animal Shelter in Morton Grove, Illinois. At the moment, he’s experiencing a bit of internet fame for his long list of rules and idiosyncrasies — a list that is is nothing short of inspiring.
Here’s what’s going on with Bruno.
He is on a strict diet.
He has several extra toes.
He prefers to play with feather wand toys only.
He likes to be pet on the top of his head and spine only.
He stands on his hind legs when he wants food. No one knows where he learned this.
He likes to be pet while he is eating (but, again, only on the spine and the top of the head).
He will not drink water that is in the same room as his food. He will only drink water in other rooms.
Thus, he requires multiple bowls of water around the house at all times.
Other than that, though, he is pretty “laid-back.” Read more…

What’s the most important quality in a space pilot? Loyalty – at least that’s the case in Star Wars: Resistance, the new animated series about rookie pilot Kaz (Christopher Sean) who’s recruited to spy on the First Order.
The first trailer gives us a taste of Kaz’s general vibe, as well as how he jibes with his de facto mentor: Poe Dameron (yes, that’s Oscar Isaac).
The rest of the cast includes Suzie McGrath, Scott Lawrence, Myrna Velasco, Josh Brener, Donald Faison, Jim Rash, and Bobby Moynihan, with Gwendolyn Christie also popping in from the big screen Star Wars franchise to reprise her role as Captain Phasma. Read more…

In case you missed it, the robots are here.
No, not the apocalyptic hordes of artificially intelligent machines that some believe are destined to enslave or eradicate us (hello, Boston Dynamics!), but the everyday devices and companions that are rapidly becoming commonplace. After decades of lofty sci-fi-inspired promises, robots like iRobot’s Roomba vacuums and the many iterations of the Sony Aibo robodog are slowly carving out their places in our domestic lives. Even Amazon’s Alexa is arguably a disembodied robot.

It may seem like an alarmist local news story to declare your breakfast could kill you, but a new independent study claims that some of your favorite cereals could contain unsafe levels of a chemical used in a popular weed killer.
The report, from the Environmental Working Group (EWG), was published online Wednesday and outlines the levels of the chemical glyphosate they found in various breakfast cereals and snacks.
Glyphosate is the major ingredient in the herbicide RoundUp and one at the center of an ongoing tug-of-war.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has ruled the chemical is “probably carcinogenic to humans,” and the state of California has categorized it as a chemical linked to cancer. Meanwhile, in late 2017, the EPA concluded an assessment that declared “glyphosate is not likely to be carcinogenic to humans. Read more…
