iOS 12.1 extends controversial processor throttling feature to the iPhone 8, 8 Plus, and X

With iOS 12.1, Apple introduced a bunch of new features to its mobile devices like Group FaceTime and dozens of new emoji. But the company also elected to add a controversial new performance management feature to the iPhone 8, 8 Plus, and iPhone X.
For the uninitiated, back in December 2017, Apple confirmed that it would sometimes slow down older iPhones through a software update in order to prevent unexpected shutdowns. The result was that models like the iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6S, 6S Plus, 7, and 7 Plus would often perform poorly after being updated to the newest version of iOS.
Users had long suspected Apple was throttling older iPhones, but it wasn’t until Geekbench published an exposé that the company publicly admitted it was, indeed, slowing down older iPhones — albeit, for a good reason. Read more…

In the Netherlands, three companies partnered up to collect your recycled plastic and turn it into bike pathsPlasticRoad is a Lego-like road system that consists of modular, prefabricated sections. The plastic road has a hollow space inside it and can host cables, pipelines, but also rainwater so that the street does not become flooded in case of heavy rainfall. Read more…

French startup Lendix is changing its name to October. The company is using this opportunity to redesign its branding assets and refresh the design of the website for new users. The product remains the same — a lending platform connecting individual and institutional investors with small and medium companies.
October had to change its name for multiple reasons, including the fact that Lendix sounds a bit too French for a company that wants to become a European leader. But the company used this opportunity to move away from its original, pretty boring name. Lendix is a straightforward name that suggests that it’s all about lending money.
But there are so many companies with “lend” in their names that it quickly became a disadvantage — Lendopolis, Unilend, Lendosphère, LendingClub…
October is easy to understand and to write down in a casual conversation. If the company wants to branch out and start offering other financial products, it won’t be awkward.
That’s about it. I just wanted to note the change given that I’ve covered October a few times over the years.

The parent of a precocious little girl says she spent two years growing out her hair in anticipation of her dream Halloween costume: Harry Potter‘s Albus Dumbledore. It was definitely worth the wait.
Reddit user jackthlion shared a photo of his five-year-old daughter on Wednesday sporting a fake beard and near-waist length hair to pull off the look.
For all of you non-Potterheads, Dumbledore is the beloved headmaster of Hogwarts in the Harry Potter universe. He’s known for his long, flowing hair and his even longer beard.
