Police are appealing for witnesses following Britain’s first “Bitcoin heist,” in which a trader was held at gunpoint and ordered to transfer the cryptocurrency.
A spokesperson for Thames Valley Police told Mashable that police are investigating the “aggravated burglary” which took place in a residential property in Moulsford, Oxfordshire, on 22 Jan.
“Officers were called at about 9.40am to a report that offenders had entered a residential property off Reading Road and threatened the occupants. No one was seriously injured during the incident,” the spokesperson said. Read more…

Facebook created an adorable blue dinosaur back in 2014 to help educate its users about the social network’s privacy settings. But in 2018, the dino is not enough.
On Monday, Facebook released its privacy principles — seven sentences that the company says it should be held accountable to — as well as a series of educational videos about how to control the information Facebook collects and uses to show you ads, and how to delete your account.
The move, announced in a blog post, is not all for fun or just because Facebook suddenly realized it should be more communicative with its users on privacy. It dropped on Data Privacy Day. It’s also a sign that Facebook is preparing for the European Union’s upcoming privacy changes known as General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The new rules go into effect on May 25. Read more…

January 29, 2018Despite the fact Black Mirror is a largely cynical show in which technology is often paired with the rapid, spiralling doom of mankind, it turns out a bunch of people would still like to test said technology out.
On Monday, YouGov released the results of a survey in which they asked British people which Black Mirror technologies they’d be willing to adopt. In total, 1,714 people took the survey, and each person had to rate how likely — from “Very Unlikely” to “Very Likely” — they would be to use each piece of tech featured in the show. Read more…
