Anthony Bourdain's first time at Waffle House is a spiritual, unpretentious must-watch

In 2015, Anthony Bourdain went to Waffle House for the first time.

Like many people who go to Waffle House, he and chef Sean Brock paid a late-night visit, slipping under the yellow awning into a world Bourdain aptly described as “marvelous — an irony-free zone where everything is beautiful and nothing hurts.”

In the Parts Unknown clip, which people shared fondly on Twitter Friday in the wake of Bourdain’s death, the two watch the southern chain’s classics being cooked — fried eggs, waffles, hash browns held together with gleaming cheese and studded with chunks of ham.
