Empire State Building lit up rainbow in honor of Australia's same-sex marriage vote

November 15, 2017

Australia’s vote to legalize same-sex marriage is being celebrated around the world, and following the news the Empire State Building showed support by lighting up in the glorious colors of the rainbow.

Though the Australian Parliament still has to officially vote to pass the legislation, Tuesday’s postal survey showed an overwhelming 61.6 percent of residents (7,817,247 people) were in favor of same-sex marriage and 38.4 percent (4,873,987 people) were opposed.

It’s a history-making step towards achieving marriage equality that certainly deserves some ✨extra lit✨  recognition.
