Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari has lashed out at the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government, saying Nawaz Sharif’s party “looted” the country whenever it came to power.
“The Pakistan People Party [government] provided job opportunities to the people instead of snatching employments from them while the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz government ‘looted’ the country whenever it ruled the country, ” the former president said while talking to reporters in Peshawar on Thursday.
Replying to a query, Zardari said: “If Nawaz Sharif had any doubts regarding his disqualification then why did he leave the PM House.”
In its July 28 landmark judgment in the Panamagate case, the Supreme Court deposed Nawaz Sharif for concealing assets in his nomination papers for 2013 elections.
Zardari sees no political future for Sharifs
“The PPP’s prime minister [Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani] was also was sent home but we didn’t protest on the streets against the court decision… the transition of power was smooth,” Zardari said while referring to the hue and cry raised by Nawaz Sharif and his PML-N government over his disqualification.
Criticising the Imran Khan-led Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government in Khyer-Pakhtunkhwa, the PPP leader said that Sindh has produced 150 megawatts of electricity while K-P hasn’t produced even a single megawatt in its almost five year tenure. “Captain [Imran] is happy in his own world,” he added.
However, Zardari at the same breath praised K-P Chief Minister Pervaiz Khattak, saying: “He [Khattak] is the most amiable person compared to Imran.”
Expressing his desire to serve K-P again, the PPP leader said: “Last time the PPP couldn’t do much because it was a part of a coalition government … this time, if the party gets a chance to rule, it will leave no stone unturned and introduce as many developmental projects and create employment opportunities in the province.”
