Lawmakers to Twitter: Your negligence addressing racism is 'quite literally life threatening'

Twitter is helping spread racism that can lead to life-threatening situations and help to undermine democracy. That sentiment isn’t new for the 11-year-old social network, but it is latest call to action by lawmakers. 

Lawmakers Reps. Bonnie Watson Coleman and Emanuel Cleaver sent a letter to Twitter Tuesday calling for the company to be more proactive in creating solutions and taking more immediate action to suspend account that spread racist and violent behaviorRecode first reported the letter. 

“We are disappointed by the silence from you and others in your industry on ways to counter such blatant manipulation of this medium to build racial animosity, the consequences of which are quite literally life threatening,” the letter addressed to Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey reads.  Read more…
