You can finally stream 4K videos on Xbox One consoles

Xbox One S and X consoles can stream 4K resolution videos through the YouTube app now, over a year after the 4K-ready Xbox One S console was released.

Microsoft released an update to the YouTube app available to Xbox One consoles, allowing the One S and X to play videos in resolutions up to 4K. The YouTube app is currently the only way to watch 4K videos on the consoles.

The Xbox One S was released in August 2016 as an enhanced version of the Xbox One, which touted the ability to play games in better-than-1080p (but not quite 4K) as well as play 4K video. The Xbox One X followed in 2017 with more hardware improvements, but it wasn’t until today that the two consoles got the ability to actually play 4K video. Read more…
