Khatm-e-Nabuwwat: Nawaz orders inquiry into gaffe in nomination form

October 7, 2017

Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif has ordered an inquiry to identify the people responsible for changing the declaration related to Khatm-e-Nabuwwat in the election nomination form.

During the passage of Election Act 2017, the inadvertent removal of the clause, which the government declared a “clerical error” had drawn criticism from across the country.

On Wednesday, the National Assembly unanimously amended the act to restore clauses related to Khatm-e-Nabuwwat to their original form.

Express News reported on Saturday that the former PM, who is the chief of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), has formed a inquiry committee chaired by party leader Senator Zafar Rajaul Haq and also including Climate Change Minister Mushahidullah Khan and Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal.

The committee has been directed to identify those whose negligence led to the changes in the Khatm-e-Nabuwat declaration within 24 hours and present a report to the party president, Nawaz, who will take action against them as per party policy.
