'Friends' called that 'Black Mirror' episode years before it happened

“San Junipero” is a revelation in more ways than one; the episode recently won multiple Emmys, and it already stood out as the singular feel-good episode of the bleak and existential Black Mirror.

But it turns out the episode idea came decades ago, from one Dr. Ross Gellar (David Schwimmer) on Friends.

“By the year 2030, there will be computers that can carry out the same amount of functions as an actual human brain,” Ross says in the clip, from Season 6, episode 7 (“The One Where Phoebe Runs”). “So, theoretically, you can download your thoughts and memories into this computer and live forever as a machine.” Read more…
