PESHAWAR: The Milli Muslim League (MML) has formally inaugurated its office in Peshawar, and also announced support for an independent candidate running for NA-4 by-election scheduled for October 26.

The office, located on Kohat Road, was inaugurated on Wednesday. MML President Saifullah Khalid, Farooq Khan of Tehreek-e-Nojawanan group and the independent candidate for NA-4 Alhaj Liaqat Ali Khan attended the ceremony.

Announcing support for Khan, party chief Khalid said the by-election was no longer between political parties but between the “forces of good and evil, Pakistan and United States and Pakistan and Narendar Modi’s India”.

Khalid urged the constituency’s residents to vote for Khan and put an end to the forces which come into power by fueling sectarianism and linguistic divides.

The party leader added that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-led provincial government had deprived the constituency for the past four years and if elected, the MML-backed candidate will address all their problems.

JuD launches political party to contest upcoming polls

The MML had announced founding of a political party on August 7 this year. Khalid, the son-in-law of Jamaatud Dawa chief Hafiz Saeed, was named as its president. The party surprised everyone last month when its candidate, Yaqoob Sheikh, managed to bag 5,822 votes on September 17’s by-election in NA-120 Lahore, surpassing Jamaat-e-Islami and Pakistan Peoples Party.

Last week, the Ministry of Interior had urged the Election Commission of Pakistan to avoid registering MML as a political entity, maintaining that allowing such parties to flourish will fuel violence and extremism in domestic politics.
