This lamp, designed for the MoMA, looks like a 3D skull

The Museum of Modern Art is known for its cutting-edge contemporary exhibitions of the world’s most influential designers and artists. It also happens to have a really cool design shop, where you can buy pieces designed by their favorite artists. Whether or not you can make it to New York to see the collection of Monets or to hang out with Abbi Jacobson, you can show off your keen eye for design with their curated shop picks.

This skull lamp, designed by Israeli artist Nir Chehanowski exclusively for MoMa, is one of our favorites. It looks like a 3D skull, but that’s actually an optical illusion. The skull is just a sheet of acrylic glass with laser-cut lines outlining the shape of the skull. LED light travels up from the base, illuminating the lines and creating the 3D effect.  Read more…
